Yesterday we celebrated “Day of the Patron”, a day dedicated to Korczak. In the afternoon the campers were divided into 9 groups. Each group received a Korczak quote which they had to present in the format of a play or a poster or a video clip.
After dinner the groups presented their work. None had chosen to do a poster so we sat at the fireplace (the”circle”) and enjoyed the performances. We then went to the big tent (the “circus”) where the video clips were presented. It is amazing to see how much thought and work can be achieved in two hours.
We then gathered at the foot of the Korczak monument for a ceremony. A huge banner with the image of Korczak was displayed at the side of the stone monument. The image, a picture of Korczak taken on one of his visit’s to Eretz Yisrael (1934 or 1936) on Kibbutz Ein Harod. A large metal Menorah and Star of David were lit up with candles setting a perfect atmosphere for the occasion. On the side of the lake, as if part of the proceedings, a large picture banner of the “chief,” the late Jerzy Zgodzinki was proudly displayed.
The ceremony itself was very emotional. In all four corners one of the older campers stood with a burning flame. The campers stood in a half-circle and when all were in place, the ceremony began. The head of the camp (Beata) and Batia read the “Korczakian Vow” line by line, in Polish and Hebrew, with the campers repeating each sentence. This was followed by a musical interlude, three guitarists and a singer. During this time every camper received a certificate with a drawing of Korczak and one of his more popular quotes, a quote (1908) from the time he spent as a young doctor at the summer camps: “For the first time I spoke not to the children but with the children …” This was followed by the reading of chosen quotes that were read by the campers first in Polish and then in English. Very touching, clear and heartwarming.
We all returned to “the circle” where the singing continued, not the regular lively camp songs, but soft music. In small groups, according to the tents, the campers came to the Korczak memorial site and in pairs marched to the stone statue, stood a minute in silence and then marched away with another couple paying their respects. Quiet, emotional, touching.
This morning as usual began with the role-call followed by the morning meeting. The activity for today – the camp divided into 4 groups (Hip-hop, Reggae, Classical and Heavy Rock). Each group must prepare a village in line with their genre of music.

כל קבוצה הייתה צריכה לבחור דרך יצירתית להצגת העבודה, דרך סרטון או שיר, המחזה.
בערב אחרי ארוחת הערב התכנסו יחדיו באזור המדורה ומשם המשכנו לטקס מיוחד ומרגש לזכרו יאנוש קורצ‘אק. הטקס החל עם שבועה בשפות פולנית ובעברית ואז כל זוג של אנשים מכל אוהל הקריא משפט של קורצ‘אק בפולנית וגם באנגלית. המשפטים היו מעוררי השראה ובעלי תוכן מיוחד.
לאחר הטקס התכנסנו שוב כולם מול המדורה ושם שרנו שירים בפולנית ואף גם באנגלית. השירים התאימו לאווירה והיו מיוחדים ומרגשים גם הם. לאחר מכן הזוגות שהקריאו בטקס התבקשו לגשת ולעמוד לדקת דומיה ליד האנדרטה הראשונה שהוקמה לזכרו של קורצ‘אק. זה היה מדהים.
בבוקר של היום קמנו למזג אוויר נעים ולאחר ארוחת הבוקר התכנסו ביחד להודעה על פעילות. המחנה התחלק ל4 קבוצות : היפ–הופ, רוק מטאל, רגאי וקלאסי. כל קבוצה צריכה לבנות כפר ולהציג דרכו את הסגנון המוזיקלי. העבודה החלה מידי .
שעות אחר הצהריים הוקדשו גם הם לבניית הכפרים.
